Marple Fish

Jamie’s life as a Fishmonger began at the age of 12 at Oxford Covered Market. It all began by doing deliveries on a bicycle to local universities and restaurants. By the age of 16 he had progressed to running the wholesale department. He started working for Tony at “Marple Fish of Fleetwood” in 2009 delivering fresh fish & seafood direct from Fleetwood Docks to Marple. Located at the side of “The Royal Bank of Scotland” on Market Street, “Maple Fish of Fleetwood” became the popular go-to place for the residents of Maple and the surrounding areas for their supply of fresh fish & seafood. Jamie’s knowledge and passion meant he quickly became the trusted fishmonger of Marple.

In 1986, Tony decided the time had come to retire from fish mongering. Jamie knew that the people of Marple needed a real fishmonger and with the amazing support of his wife Lattisha, the purchase of “Marple Fish of Fleetwood” was made.

As Jamie’s regular customer base grew, the need for bigger premises became evident and the decision was made in 2011 to expand and purchase a Portakabin. Still located at the side of “The Royal Bank of Scotland”, the Portakabin became a more permanent and user-friendly place to purchase your fresh fish & seafood.

Also, as people became more knowledgeable, they started to ask for fish & seafood that Fleetwood Docks couldn’t provide. Jamie began sourcing fresh fish & seafood from other locations around the UK, such as Devon, Cornwall, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales as well as from Fleetwood. The time for a slight name change had arrived too as they no longer just supplied from Fleetwood Docks anymore, and “Marple Fish” was born.

The customers of Marple Fish really do love their fish & seafood, and with this came the need to stock additional products such as sauces, fish stock, soups and flavourings. The opportunity arose in 2017 for the purchase of a shop in Marple on Market Street just across from the Portakabin, and Jamie took the brave move and made Marple Fish a permanent local business at 26 Market Street, Marple.

Today, Jamie along with fellow fishmonger Andrew provide their customers with a huge variety of fresh fish & seafood all sustainably sourced from both UK and international waters. All the fresh fish and seafood is hand-picked, cleaned, prepared and inspected by Jamie and Andrew to the highest standard.

In August 2020, Marple Fish hit the national and international headlines after Jamie bought a ‘monster’ halibut weighing more than 21 stone at Fleetwood fish market.

Tipping the scales at more than 134kg and measuring more than 9ft, Jamie said “It’s the biggest I have ever seen in my life and I’ve been doing this since I was 12. As soon as I saw it, I just knew I had to have for my customers.

Word soon spread, and it wasn’t long before Marple Fish was featured on Fox News in the U.S.
